Nicholas Cage, who starred as Spider-Noir in Amazon’s eponymous TV show, has said that he will probably not work with the studio again following a dispute over using AI. His stance against the technology likely means he won’t return as the character in the future, and solidifies the end of its TV run.
That is according to the Hollywood Reporter. Cage was on stage at the New York Comic Con yesterday and spoke about his career and what the future holds for him. Among all the talk, Cage came to the topic of artificial intelligence, saying that Amazon is a “very AI-friendly company” with “$50 billion invested to OpenAI.” He, on the other hand, isn’t so keen on the technology, which apparently led to a dispute with Amazon’s studios during his work on Spider-Noir.
“I am not an AI-friendly actor. I didn’t sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider-Noir. It’s kind of like I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again,” Cage said.

On the other hand, Cage praised the new generation of filmmakers who do things in their own way and manually, and said he wants to get into that side of movies rather than these emerging AI trends in corporate studios.
“So I got to get with these young directors who are Gen Z and they’re going at it their own way, whether it’s through the YouTube culture or whatever it is. They’re doing it from scratch and by hand. I want to get with that,” he said.
So that probably means Spider-Noir is done for good, at least in terms of Cage’s involvement with the show and the character. Now that he gave it his own iconic flair, I’m not so sure any other actor would even want to try to take it for a spin, considering how high a bar Cage has set. Whether he’ll be voicing Spider-Noir in any Spider-Verse movies after Beyond the Spider-Verse is also unclear, though I sure hope he does stay.
In other news, Cage is set to star in the next season of True Detective, and hopefully save that series from certain doom following the catastrophe that was season four. However, if the writers don’t change, his stellar acting won’t be enough.
