New Kinect tech augments your entire living room

The future is now?

Microsoft has shown off some new Kinect technology at CES that’s looking to turn your entire living room into one big interactive space. IllumiRoom uses Kinect for Windows and a projector to augment the area around your television screen. The tech can add special effects, or extend the screen size in order to add to the experience.

It’s an interesting concept, and I can see some real potential behind it. At the same time, it feels like things would just become way too distracting, detracting from the core experience. Like the Kinect itself, this seems like it would benefit party type games more than hardcore games. Plus, buying a projector when I already own a sweet TV for gaming is rather redundant.
