Naughty Dog considering new IP, The Last of Us sequel

‘Can we tell people a story that’s really worth telling, and that’s not repeating itself?’

After next week’s single-player Left Behind DLC for The Last of Us releases, the team at Naughty Dog is due for a good mental break away from that universe. “Bruce Straley, the game director, and I have been doing this for over four years now,” creative director and writer Neil Druckmann told Eurogamer. They have started brainstorming ideas for their next project.

“To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP — we’ve spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP,” he said. “So we have to get some good steps and see… It’s kind of like how we approached Left Behind. Can we tell people a story that’s really worth telling, and that’s not repeating itself? And if we can’t, where can we get inspired — what is something that’s really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?”

Going for a new IP brought us The Last of Us in the first place, so yeah — do that, please. Especially since we’ve already got that new Uncharted for PS4 in the pipeline.
