There’s a lot of controversy surrounding Sony and their terrible decision to end physical media, but seeing my favorite game of 2025 hit PS Plus has helped me, at least briefly, look past all of that, and maybe you should, too.

At least for the next few days, that is. We’re all upset at Sony’s decision-making, but this really is an unmissable title in my books, so I thought I’d write about it anyway.

My favorite game of 2025 was, without a doubt, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Expedition 33 was on the list as well, but the plain fact is that I enjoyed KCD 2 more. And who knows, you might, too. If you haven’t played it already, definitely give it a go if you’re already on PS Plus (and you have a PS5).

In the game, you play as good old Henry from the first game. As you start out, he is a certifiable badass, having lived through the events of the first game and learned to fight, ride, and shoot as well as any silver-spooned nobleman.

Yet, misfortune strikes, and you basically start again from scratch in KCD 2. So we have the chance to go from an untrained nobody clad in rags to a powerful knight clad in heavy armor, with more gold than any sane human would carry.

I’ll admit that the story isn’t mind-blowing, but it’s solid and plenty satisfying. The gameplay is fun once you get the hang of the combat, and you’ll meet plenty of lively characters voiced by very capable actors on your journey.

The world itself is breathtaking, offering tons to do. You could live in the woods for a while as a hermit, find hidden springs and bandit camps, go hunting (very illegally; don’t get caught), or just make your way through the main campaign at your leisure.

I’ve replayed it twice now, and I was due for another playthrough come January, but now might be a good time to experience it on PS5 (I played the PC version before).

It’s super replayable, with branching paths within the story that you can also experiment with. There’s also a host of different combat and playstyles you can tinker with to get a feel for your favorite or to experience a new challenge on a fresh playthrough.

Overall, it’s a fantastic game and one of my all-time favorites — and not just for 2025. I’m happy to see it get some exposure, and I hope you give it a shot and enjoy your time in one of the best game worlds I’ve experienced. It’s currently rated 92% positive on Steam (where it’s also on sale at the time of writing) from almost 67,000 English reviews.

It can be a bit frustrating to get going, being a bit of a broke peasant simulator to start off with, but once you get better gear and learn to fight, it becomes infinitely better, I promise.
