MW3 players claim OP Akimbo Lockwood MK2s make game ‘literally unplayable’

I'm sick of getting blasted by these shotguns.

Modern Warfare 3 has seen its fair share of overpowered weapons, but the current Akimbo Lockwood MK2 shotgun meta may be the worst, with players claiming it makes modes like Small Map Moshpit “literally unplayable.”

The Akimbo Lockwood MK2s are reminiscent of the legendary Model 1887s from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, and have been a force to be reckoned with on smaller Warzone maps since they were added in Season 3 Reloaded. It’s no surprise that they’ve been equally deadly in MW3, where close-quarters combat can happen regularly.

If you’ve dropped into Small Map Moshpit recently, a mode that is exclusively filled with the game’s tiniest maps, then the chances are extremely high that you’ve been blasted to smithereens by these destructive shotguns. I know I have, and like many fans of the game, I’m growing tired of it.

In a Reddit post, user coleridge113 posted a meme from The Simpsons, with Homer sitting in the middle of a bar surrounded by women. In this version, however, Homer is an SMG surrounded by Akimbo shotguns, with the caption: “Small Moshpit is literally unplayable.”

Many agreed with the sentiment, with quotes ranging from “especially obnoxious,” to “10x worse than the JAK Maglift kit. Absolutely disgusting.”

“People who take the other side, that these guns are fine, apparently don’t understand that small map players are completely used to shotguns being a crutch that many people rely on,” wrote realcoray. “It wasn’t like this before, we never had to deal with a ton of shotgun players.”

Of course, some did suggest that Small Map Moshpit is where shotguns should excel, as they are designed for short-distance combat. After playing the mode this week though, I agree with those who hate them. Sure, if you have one or two in your lobby it’s not so bad, but when four or five guys on the other team are running around Shipment blasting you every time you spawn, it’s not much fun.

After three games in a row where they destroyed me, I ended up closing MW3 because I just couldn’t take any more. Shotguns should be strong at close range, but these Lockwood MK2s definitely need some adjusting.
