Music…makes the people…come together
In case you ever wanted to tune out a game’s audio in favor of your own, PlayStation 4 has got you covered. Sony has confirmed at its New York review event that the Music Unlimited service can play even while a game is running. For those unfamiliar, Music Unlimited is Sony’s Pandora-like service, where users can search for artists, albums, and genres, creating custom lists that will play from those selected criteria.
Once you have the service running, it’s a simple button press to bring up the menu to control pauses, plays, and skips through the playlist. Both the music and game audio will play on top of each other, however, so users will have to adjust the game audio to whatever volume they prefer, or just mute it completely.
While Sony will support this feature entirely, game devs do have the option to disable it. Presumably, this is to prevent custom playlists from interfering in music and rhythm games, where the game audio is paramount. So long as I get to play Straight Outta Compton while running over pedestrians in Grand Theft Auto VI, I’m satisfied.
Music Unlimited will be available on PlayStation 4 at launch, with the app coming pre-installed on all systems.
