Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has released a very fun cinematic trailer for its upcoming platform brawler MultiVersus. The star-studded fighter is currently in development for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms, with an expected release date of late-2022.

The very fun near three-minute cinematic sees a selection of characters from franchises such as Scooby-Doo!, DC Comics, Game of Thrones, Looney Tunes, and Steven Universe coming together to throw down in a sunny-funny meadow. This is one of those affairs where it’s better if you just sit back and enjoy the trailer, rather than have me over-explain every last element of it like those awful YouTube videos.

MultiVersus will receive its first closed alpha test later this week, running between May 19 and May 27. This will be followed by an open beta in July, ahead of the title’s official launch later in 2022. MultiVersus will support crossplay on all platforms, and will sport rollback netcode on exclusive game servers. It will launch as a free-to-play title, so expect microtransactions and other in-game purchases.

I really enjoyed this trailer, and I think the concept of MultiVersus shows a lot of promise, even though the Smash Bros. gameplay style is very much not for me. But the potential for some utterly ridiculous showdowns — fights that will see GoT characters crossing swords with frikkin’ Tom and Jerry — is very inviting, and I’ll definitely be keeping this silly slapfest on my radar. Let’s go, Velma.

MultiVersus is currently in development for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms.
