Movies and games on one Blu-ray disc? It’s happening this year, promises Sony

Now this is an interesting concept, and one so obvious that it really is shocking nobody’s tried it already. SCEA hardware marketing manager John Koller has announced plans to produce Blu-ray movie/videogame hybrids sometime this year. That’s right, all the thrill of Talladega Nights and Lair on ONE DISC!

“The way that we see the future is that the movie and the game are placed on the same disc,” explains Koller. “We will definitely see this stuff this year.”

According to the Sony man, lots of developers have already expressed interest in the concept of hybridized BDs, and Warner Bros. Interactive has confirmed that it sees potential, claiming that it could theoretically have included a demo version of Wanted: Weapons of Fate with the film itself.

The potential is definitely there, although just like Home, I feel that this is something advertisers will bust a nut over more than consumers. Still, it’s neat concept.
