Back in 2017 Mordhau, as Jordan perfectly put it, showed lots of promise. I got immediate Mount & Blade vibes from the Kickstarter pitch, but with a decidedly more bloody and action focus. Today all of that planning comes to fruition.

Mordhau is out now on Steam for 30 bucks, and people are really taking to it. So much so, in fact, that it managed to peak at fourth place on Twitch thus far with over 87,000 viewers, only behind perennial champions Fortnite, GTA V, and League of Legends. Now a lot of new games hit the top 10 of Twitch and then promptly fall off (see Sekiro), but Mordhau is of special note because it’s an indie Kickstarter project. It also focuses heavily on shareable moments and a 64-players: it even includes a battle royale mode as well as offline play (with co-op/AI support to boot).

You can’t really predict what’s going to hit. Some huge projects have failed and lesser concepts have taken off. But for now, the developers at Triternion have a lot to be proud of.
