You could say they’re ‘building’ an empire…

If the amount of kids screwing around in Minecraft while their doting parents shake their heads going “Oh, those kids and their Minecraft!” and Let’s Plays and creepers in popular media isn’t enough to tell you how ridiculously popular the Mojang sandbox paradise is, then perhaps these numbers will.

As of today, Mojang employee Patrick Geuder announced that the console editions of Minecraft have surpassed that of the amount of copies sold for PC/Mac. All told, they’ve sold nearly 54 million copies. That’s a ridiculous sum, but not surprising given the fact that Minecraft is available on pretty much any platform you could choose to play it on. Its influence on the game industry at large has been staggering, and it is no doubt one of the games that will stand the test of time for future generations. It’s a Minecraft world, apparently. We just live in it.

With that said, I really feel like I don’t play it enough. I suddenly want to do some exploring of my own.
