Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is getting a second wind with a Definitive Edition. TheĀ  well-remembered puzzle-battle game is getting a new version produced by Dotemu.

TheĀ Might & MagicĀ series itself is an old one in games, andĀ Clash of HeroesĀ is a unique, superb take on it. It’s a blend of tactics and puzzle gameplay, where you match units on a board to send them after the opponent, going back and forth in turn-based, line-driven puzzle battles.

Originally developed by Capybara Games, published by Ubisoft, and released in 2009, the Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes Definitive EditionĀ is getting a refresh from Dotemu. Via a press release, Dotemu says it has not altered the “established scope and vision” of the game.

The portraits and art have been given a refresh, and quality-of-life improvements have been added, including a multiplayer rebalance. This definitiveĀ Clash of HeroesĀ will also include theĀ I Am the BossĀ DLC, with four playable bosses and a newly created, multiplayer-exclusive boss Euny the Archdruid. You can see how it all looks in the trailer below:

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes was one of my favorite games from the era it was originally released in,” said Dotemu CEO Cyrille Imbert in a press release. “Itā€™s a game design gem. I spent so many nights on my Xbox 360 with my friends trying to set up the best, undefeatable strategy, playing for just ‘one more duel’ until the sun rose. So to be able to work on an updated version of this modern classic and bring it to entirely new audiences is amazing; we canā€™t wait to introduce this game to a new generation of fans.”

The clash is back

The original Might & Magic: Clash of HeroesĀ was available on Steam, though that version appears to delisted at the moment. But putting this strategy gem on modern consoles, especially the Switch, seems like a no-brainer.

It’s an inventive title that reminds me of the heyday of the Nintendo DS and XBLA. It’s exciting to see a game that felt like a cult classic get revitalized for new platforms.Ā Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes Definitive EditionĀ heads to PC, PS4, and Switch this summer.
