Microsoft r?sum?s ‘confirm’ next generation Xbox console

Four separate résumés from Microsoft employees have pointed toward development of a next generation Xbox model, one that I won’t be calling the “Xbox 720,” because that name is completely stupid.

The information reveals Jeff Faulkner as “Xbox Next Gen Creative Director,” and has Jonathan Harris “designing the next generation of entertainment.” In addition, Patrick Corrigan‘s C.V. claims he is, “providing groundwork an integration for branding elements for next-gen Xbox on all forms of media. Ranging from print to UI across future releases of the Xbox platform.”

Finally, hardware intern Joe Langevin says he is working on “high speed data buses to prevent electromagnetic interference in next-gen devices.”

Everybody’s been pretty excited at this “confirmation” of work on a new Xbox, but I fail to see where the surprise is. It’s been fairly obvious for a long time that every company in the world has been working toward a new generation of consoles. Simply confirming development of a next-gen Xbox at this stage is like “confirming” Activision has plans for a new Call of Duty in 2012.
