Microsoft now owns ‘Splosion Man studio Twisted Pixel

In news that some may find worrying, Microsoft’s announced that it has acquired ‘Splosion Man developer Twisted Pixel. The former indie studio now joins the ranks of Lionhead and Rare. Let’s hope it’s as successful as the former and doesn’t follow in quite the same footsteps as the latter.

“Twisted Pixel has an incredible track record of delivering innovative, critically acclaimed, and most importantly, fun, games,” said MS’ Phil Spencer.”Microsoft Studios is home to cutting-edge entertainment experiences, and the incredible creativity of the Twisted Pixel team will help drive further innovation around Kinect and Xbox Live.”

Twisted Pixel co-found Michael Wilford called the move “exciting” and named Microsoft the “leader in digital distribution and creating new innovations in gaming like Xbox Live and Kinect.”

With Twisted Pixel producing most of its games for Xbox Live, this is a fairly natural move. Still, that’s another solid independent developer ensorceled by the mighty corporate overlords. They’ll come for us all one day.
