Consumers may have two choices in ad-delivery devices next generation

A report has surfaced today suggesting that Microsoft may be developing a set-top box to release alongside the next generation of Xbox hardware. According to sources tapped by The Verge, the device will use core components of Windows 8 and offer casual gaming options. The report goes on to state that Microsoft has also investigated teaming up with television manufacturers to provide these services for a licensed Xbox television.

And why not? I’ve wondered at the possibility and potential of an Xbox Live Arcade console, a smaller box that just stuck to the more basic downloadable titles and could offer Netflix, Hulu, and so forth. This could be a good thing.
