Microsoft congratulates Sony on PS4 launch

Sony wishes Microsoft good luck with Xbox One in turn

The console wars are back in full swing. Two new challengers enter the ring this month, but only one will leave. Sony and Microsoft are brandishing daggers. They’re charging headlong at one another. It’s kill or be killed.

But wait.

“Congratulations on your launch, Sony,” Microsoft tweeted today via the official Xbox account, echoing sentiments Xbox Live director of programming Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb broadcast late yesterday evening.

Sony responded in kind, with PlayStation publisher & developer relations vice president Adam Boyes and SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida both wishing Microsoft luck with Xbox One’s impending launch.

It was a surprisingly civil exchange for two companies that are oft painted to be out for one another’s blood. While these companies will be competing against one another this holiday season and seemingly until the end of time, it’s important to remember that a rising tide lifts all ships. The market is growing. More people are buying consoles than ever before. And one company’s success does not preclude the other from enjoying the same.
