Microsoft busts into IGF with its own XBLA Prize to give

Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE publishing ninjas (that sounds so much better than just “team”) have just signed a “multi-year partnership” with the Independent Games Festival which will see an all-new XBLA Prize.

The development team whose game wins said award will get a first-party publishing deal which will see the winning title on several LIVE-enabled platforms including the Xbox LIVE Arcade and Windows Phone 7. The winner will be announced on-stage on March 7 during the IGF Awards ceremony.

Unless there’s fine print within the fine print of Microsoft’s winners guarantee that has something to do with the company being able to suck up their souls, this is very much a win-win situation for both parties. Because money. And publicity. Because publicity helps make more money. Money.
