Microsoft acquires cloud-computing company GreenButton

High-performance cloud tech

Recommended Videos

Microsoft has acquired a high-performance cloud-computing company named GreenButton today. The two companies have worked together in the past, with GreenButton also providing services to HP, Amazon, and others. But TechCrunch reports that Microsoft will no longer sell GreenButton’s service to new customers, and will integrate their Azure group later this year.

What does this mean for gaming? It’s hard to say. Maybe nothing. GreenButton’s tech is for high-end cloud computing. Right now they power stuff like Pixar’s RenderMan on Demand and NVIDIA’s mental ray.
