As pointed out to me by TIGSource, Ludum Dare 17 has ended. To quickly catch you up to speed, these are competitions that task creative types with building a working videogame based around some concept — this time, “islands” — in a mere 48 hours. Saying the results are always interesting is such an understatement.
There were 204 entries to Ludum Dare 17, and you can view the top 20 games here. I had a couple of personal favorites, like Isles of Color and Island Hopping. Oh, and Rocket Bike to Space gets my coveted “Best Use of Thumbs Down” award.
A few of them are worth playing purely to witness insanity unfold on your monitor. Your eyes will have their beliefs questioned, if such a scenario is even possible. Specifically, go play Nuclear Test, which is pictured above. After surviving my play session with that game, I’m starting to believe anything is possible.
