Left 4 Dead sells to a retail horde of 1.8 million

A multiplayer zombie apocalypse game would need to have God himself working against its success in order to not be a hit, so it comes as no surprise that Valve’s Left 4 Dead has sold 1.8 million copies.

The sales figures were revealed by Electronic Arts in a conference call today, along with the news posted earlier regarding Dead Space getting a Wii port. The figures are for retail copies of the Xbox 360 and PC versions. Since Valve publishes the game on Steam, those figures were not included.

Not bad going, and hopefully this means Valve pocketed quite a bit of cash from retail and Steam combined. The game is easily my most played online title of recent memory, and Valve deserves every penny.
