Konami: Silent Hill could ‘expand into different genres’

No! I have an open mind, and like change and new ideas, but Silent Hill will always be a survival horror in my mind. It can’t be anything else! Well, technically it could, and it seems that Konami is leaving that door open. Great.

In a recent interview, Konami’s Tom Hulett, senior associate producer on Silent Hill: Downpour, says that there’s room for other types of SH games.

From an interview with BeefJack: “I definitely think Silent Hill has room to expand into different spinoff genres – as Resident Evil has as well – as long as they keep the fundamental themes of the series intact.”

Mind blown. Well, I could go for a Silent Hill-themed grid-based, real-time strategy game. Imagine an overhead battle scene where your army of 10 anime-d Pyramid Heads defend against nurse archers. Cute!

Hullet also took the opportunity to shut down an older rumor that Downpour was at one time a first-person shooter: “Downpour was never going to be an FPS. That was just the result of some overzealous fans reading too much into a posting on Vatra’s website.”
