The DS (and the DSi) are always big in Japan, right? Well, the PSP is putting up a good fight lately. The Media Create sales figures for last week show that Sony’s portable has plenty of good software to offer.

While Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii and Winning Eleven 2009 for the PS3 took the top spots, titles like Silent Hill 3, Higurashi Daybreak, and Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin helped the PSP’s software lineup take five of the top ten spots in software sales last week. Gundam vs. Gundam and a new Yu-Gi-Oh game filled out the other two spots. Of course, none were a match for the new Professor Layton title, which sold over 347,000 copies alone.

The PSP also had solid hardware sales last week, coming in at the number two spot, right under the DS/DSi combined figure with over 55,000 units sold. The release of Winning Eleven 2009 probably helped boost the sales of the PS3, which did a solid week with 34,978 units sold, placing them right under the Wii’s 49,000+.
