The wonderful Back to the Future series has been receiving a welcome renaissance over the last few years. With its 25th Anniversary passing by — commemorated with a Blu-ray collection — and the welcome addition to the story through Telltale’s episodic puzzle adventure, now Nike is releasing a replica of the infamous shoes from the second movie.
They’re called the 2011 Nike MAG, and are now available as a limited-edition item on eBay as part of a special auction for the Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson’s Research. The ten-day auction started on September 8th. However, being a limited-edition shoe of such an iconic film prop, the auctions so far have amassed on average a crazy $5,000 per pair.
Though many of us won’t be able to afford that, Nike confirmed that another version, complete with the trademark “power laces,” will be coming in 2015. Whether or not they’ll be as spectacular remains to be seen.
In the meantime, enjoy the classy short film above, and a special message from Marty McFly himself — the one and only Michael J. Fox.
