You might have heard that Microsoft busted the 40 million mark in March. Yep, 40 million Xbox 360s have been sold since the system’s 2005 launch. [Insert joke about defective Xbox 360 units doubling up the sales number here.]

I wasn’t a day-one buyer, which is very unlike me. Normally I’m that dude in line on the first day. Honestly, the opening line-up did nothing for me. It didn’t take long, though. Dead Rising is what had me running out to the store to pick one up. Love that game.

Examiner.com took those 40 million Xbox 360s sold worldwide and broke them down by year. It’s interesting to see how the numbers are steadily increasing. 50 million? No problem, I’m guessing.

  • FY 2005-2006 – 5.0 million
  • FY 2006-2007 – 11.6 million
  • FY 2007-2008 – 20.3 million
  • FY 2008-2009 – 31.4 million
  • FY 2009-2010 – 40.2 million

Could they do even more for the next fiscal year? It seems like the Xbox 360 is going to keep on keepin’ on.
