Hytale, the fabled Minecraft successor created by Hypixel, then sold to Riot Games, who subsequently fumbled it and sold it back to its original creators, has received its first major content update. Themed around goblins, the patch includes a myriad of different tools and gadgets for the player to use, alongside a new biome and a bunch of other novelties.
Called Out of the Breach, this marks Hytale‘s first official content chapter and its inaugural great leap toward full release. This chapter is themed around goblins, nasty green little twerps who have great proclivities toward tinkering and engineering, and thus provide the player with a bunch of interesting new gadgets to use. These include the scrap drill, the scrap glider, rocket boots, the hookshot, and the spyglass, giving the player a bunch of new mechanics to master and utilize while exploring or building.

Speaking of exploring, there’s a new biome – Guttering Hollows – a mountainous and forested region that is as packed with content above and below ground. It will contain the brunt of the update’s goblin faction, as well as a bunch of new Void-related activities. As the devs explain, this new biome is only a blueprint for later additions, as it was purposefully made to accommodate more content that’s going to be patched in down the line.
Out of the Breach introduces new abilities and the Runestone system, with seven Runestone abilities available at the moment. However, “this is only the introduction,” the devs explained, implying there’s a lot more coming soon.
One of the more exciting parts of this update is Hytale‘s first hand-made dungeon, the Deepworks, which harbors a “multi-phase boss fight,” as well as other exciting content for intrepid explorers.
“Traverse winding rooms, each one introducing new challenges. Battle through hordes of Goblins, navigate obstacles where you must dodge flames and falling debris, solve puzzles, survive the Elite Goblin Feastmaster, and activate checkpoints along the way,” the devs said of the new dungeon.
Prop Hunt has also been introduced, while mini games are expected to continue growing as the game develops.
There is simply too much to be fitted into one news article, so if you want to check out the entirety of the update, you can do so here, but keep in mind it’s fairly big.
Hytale had been stuck in development hell for many years and was essentially cancelled by Riot Games before its original creators bought it back from the League of Legends publisher. It’s now in early access and working its way through development and stands to become the competitor Minecraft so desperately needs.
