Hulu integration with Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE was the buzz among the press immediately before Microsoft’s Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009 press conference. It wasn’t announced. Instead, we watched Microsoft unveil four different, but welcome integrations to the wildly popular service: Zune video, Facebook, Twitter, and Last.FM.
Because Microsoft isn’t in the business of addressing what they’re not bringing to Xbox LIVE in landmark press conferences, we were left wondering about the potential of Hulu integration. G4TV recently caught up with Xbox executive John Schappert and quizzed him about it. If anything, Microsoft seems interested.
“I will say that we are always — I think as evidenced by our partnerships that we’ve announced — we’re always looking at new opportunities,” Schappert said. “We want to offer the best entertainment on Xbox Live in as many countries as we can.”
“But it takes a while to get these deals done, it takes a while to form these relationships, form these partnerships and find a great experience for [all] of our partners,” he continued. “Suffice to say, I don’t think the Facebook, Twitter, Skye partnerships are gonna be the last ones we’re going to announce, but nothing new beyond that.”
Cool. Hulu integration is a possibility — Schappert took care not to discount it. But while Hulu is great and all, I can’t stop thinking about how nice it would be to have a Live Journal plug-in on my dashboard. On my busiest days (the ones where I cry and moan the most), I simply don’t have the energy to flick on my computer tower. Ah, If only I could alert my emo community of my latest sorrow while changing my Avatar’s underwear. I guess one step at a time.
