Locomotion is important for any Zelda game. Even if any given title doesn’t have a fully open world map, getting around is paramount to success, especially as you acquire more abilities and tricks, and deal with tougher dungeons and bosses. In Tears of the Kingdom, it’s possibly more important than ever, given the expansion to the skies and the depths. Here’s how to use the Vow of Tulin to make things a little easier.

To use the Vow of Tulin, you need to beat the Wind Temple

After clearing the Wind Temple, Tulin will be able to permanently help you out in most areas of the game. We have a full guide on the Wind Temple boss here, and an exact location of the temple here.

To use Tulin, all you need to do is enter an area where they can be summoned, and an “avatar” (kind of like a greenish-blue ghost) will appear. They’ll not only fight alongside you and deal damage to enemies with their bow but they can also be triggered for a special wind ability: which can both toss enemies aside in battle or (primarily) gain some extra horizontal air when gliding.

All you need to do is be near them, and press the A button when prompted (“it will say Let’s Go!” on the screen). When the cooldown refreshes (denoted by a constantly refilling large bar), you can use the ability again.

Make sure you have the Vow of Tulin active in your key item stash

If you’ve cleared the Wind Temple and still don’t have the ability to summon/party up with Tulin, you may have the Vow of Tulin key item disabled.

Press the “+” button to open up your inventory, and select the “star” key item category. Look for the green orb to locate the Vow of Tulin, then select it, and hit “summon.” If it’s already summoned the prompt will note that you can “dismiss” Tulin.
