In order to start the quest chain to unlock the Dark Knight job, you must first meet three requirements. First, you need a job that is at least Level 30. Any Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic job will work, but a crafting or gathering job will not.

Second, you need to have the Heavensward expansion purchased and active on your account.

Finally, you need to complete all the Seventh Astral Era Quests up to Before the Dawn which unlocks the city of Ishgard.

If you meet all of these requirements, head to the next step to unlock the Dark Knight.

Once you meet the requirements, head to Ishgard; more specifically, the Pillars section of Ishgard. Once there, head to the Tribunal Aether Crystal, and look for an Ishgardian Man outside at the coordinates X:13.2 and Y:8.8. Talk to him twice to gain the quests “A Dark Spectacle” and then “Our End” which will unlock the Dark Knight job and give you a Dark Knight greatsword weapon.

Once you learn the action Grit which is essentially tank stance for Dark Knight, you will unlock the Blood Gauge. Grit increases the enmity you gain when using other actions. The Blood Gauge will eventually evolve to the Darkside Gauge once you continue to level up and learn the action Flood of Darkness.

Now that you know how to unlock the Dark Knight job in FFXIV, it’s time to start learning one of the more fun tank jobs in all of Final Fantasy XIV!
