A challenging take to a fresh start.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 departs from the norm of standard games when it comes to save files.

You’ll see that clearly from the main menu screen, which is missing a key feature that any player would be familiar with. We’re talking about starting a new game in Dragon’s Dogma 2, a simple yet complicated aspect of this new Capcom entry.

How do you start a new game in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

You must manually delete your saves to start a new game in Dragon’s Dogma 2. I know it’s a bit unusual, but it was done this way to make your choices more impactful. For example, once the character creation is done, race cannot be adjusted afterward. This also includes the decisions made throughout the game, from siding with one character during a quest to winding up in jail.

To delete your Steam cloud saves for Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll need to locate the correct files. The console version isn’t as tricky, as it only requires going to the settings and manually getting rid of them there. For a full breakdown, check out our guide on deleting saves.

Although changes are limited in the game, a few exceptions exist, primarily with character creation and Vocations. Those who aren’t entirely satisfied with their avatar may salvage their design through the barber. Of course, it won’t showcase all the features of the initial character creator, but it still beats starting a new save for it. Vocations are completely changeable at any time, too, via the Vocation Guild.

If you want to start a new game in Dragon’s Dogma 2 because of a “wrong” decision, you may have some luck with the ‘Load from Last Inn Rest.’ It will return the party to the last inn, potentially wiping out this mistaken choice. I recommend sleeping here before embarking on some big mission. Sometimes, it’s easy to tell when a decision-making event is about to happen, especially when two characters are at odds. So, before progressing further in these quests, rest at an inn, just in case.
