How to escape jail in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Right to jail.

If you’ve wound up on Dragon’s Dogma 2’s naughty list, you’ll earn a one-way ticket to the gaol. These misdeeds can range from trespassing to those rustlin’ bar fights when someone just looks at you the wrong way. For a way out, here’s how to escape jail in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Best ways to escape the gaol in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The best ways to escape the jail in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are using the Makeshift Gaol Key inside the cell or bribing the guards. For a list of possibilities, here’s what you can do:

  • Hail over someone nearby and bribe them
  • Grab the pot inside the cell and throw it to receive a Makeshift Gaol Key
  • Use a Makeshift Gaol Key or regular Gaol Key from your inventory

Those arrested will immediately be taken to the nearest jail, removing almost everything from the inventory slots. There are multiple ways to get out of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 jail, and luckily I’ve had some practice with Metal Gear Solid’s classic prison scenarios. The methods I tested above work in various settlements, including Vernworth and BakBattahl.

If you’ve already accumulated enough gold, interact with someone who passes by to bribe them. Any character works with this, so wait until they are close enough. I’ve also noticed that the initial price of the 10,000 G bribery will decrease after some time.

To get out of jail for free in Dragon’s Dogma 2, grab the pot in the cell and smash it to pieces. A Makeshift Gaol Key will drop, opening the cell door. The pot appears in BakBattahl and Vernworth, so it works no matter where you are.

You may have already earned a Makeshift Gaol Key beforehand, which is one of the few items remaining in your inventory after being arrested. The keys are purchasable at various shops, especially at Scrap Stores. Prices won’t always be the same, though, depending on the location and current relationship with the merchant. With this in mind, it may be best to have a key on you at all times for these situations. Or, you can utilize the Dragon’s Dogma 2 infinite Gaol Key (similar to Makeshift, but it has an endless amount of uses), and we’ll discuss how to get it shortly.

When exiting the Dragon’s Dogma 2 jail, all previous gear will return. Just step outside the building, and everything will start to appear in your inventory.

HowMake a forgery of the Gaol Key

Make a forgery of the Gaol Key by going to the Scrap Store at Checkpoint Rest Town. You’ll earn the key during the Caged Magistrate quest, but make sure not to complete it, or else Brant will ask for it back. Once you arrive at the Scrap Store, it’s time to make the infinite Gaol Key. Speak to the merchant and select the Gaol Key, costing 5,000 Gold. However, it will take a few days to complete the forgery.

To speed up time in Dragon’s Dogma 2, doze off at a nearby bench a few times. Once time passes, talk to the merchant again, and he should provide the infinite Gaol Key. That way, when you return the real key to Brant, you’re allowed to use the forged key at any time. It doesn’t matter how many times you use it; it will never disappear from your inventory, opening any jail door endlessly.
