How to show FPS and Ping in Fortnite

Now what will you blame?

While skill and experience are the main decider of how well you do at Fortnite, your network and system performance are important, as well. In order to troubleshoot these potential problems, you need to be able to see metrics on them, which you can do by displaying ping and FPS.

FPS stands for frames per second, which is how quickly your system can refresh the image on your screen. The higher the FPS, the smoother the experience. Ping is something separate, as it calculates network latency. Specifically, it tells how long it takes to send a data packet from your system to the server you’re on along with how long it takes for it to come back. Higher latency can lead to what is typically called “lag” where your system is behind what is actually happening on the server.

Both of these options are found in the settings menu, which you get to by opening the side bar, going down to the cog at the bottom of the options, and selecting settings. Then, you need to be on the graphics tab, which it should take you to by default, and then choose advanced graphics.

Move down the advanced graphics menu, and at the very bottom, you will see “Show FPS.” Toggle that on, then move over to the Game UI tab. Scroll down until you see Net Debug Stats and toggle that on.

Once you have these options applied, you can then go back to your game. At the top of your screen you will see your ping (as well as another important metric: packet loss) and your FPS.
