In Starfield, you can rename your weapon at any Weapon Workbench in the game. If you need access to one quickly, I suggest heading to the Lodge in New Atlantis and using the one in the basement.
Let’s walk through a typical weapon-based interaction. So you just found a powerful, new gun in Starfield. It turns most Spacers into smears on the inside of abandoned mining facilities. You must be very proud. But, let’s be honest, “Space Adept Commander’s Refined Coachman” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. I mean, imagine for a moment that one of your followers, in awe of your weapon’s prowess, asks you its name. I’d feel a bit sheepish. Luckily, you can carry around a proper space boomstick with a name that matches the result it brings. There is a way to rename your weapons in Starfield, and it doesn’t take much to do so. Here are the steps to follow:
- Have the weapon you want to rename in your inventory
- Walk up and activate a Weapon Workbench
- Scroll to the weapon and press the ‘R’ key or ‘Y’ button to rename it
- Change the name and hit ‘Accept’
- No longer feel embarrassed by your gun’s name
You can rename any and all weapons in Starfield
The next big question to ask: Can you rename any of the weapons in Starfield? Does that include unique weapons like the Deadeye or Keelhauler? Yes, you can! In fact, the image above shows me able to rename the Deadeye revolver into something that’s about as hilarious as a car accident. The only issue I found was that the gun name stayed the same if you have it in your quick-select menu. Despite my choosing this awful name, it was still called the Deadeye there.
Frankly, I don’t think there’s a point in renaming unique weapons. They already have a solid name, as opposed to something like “Corrosive Overcharged Calibrated Drum Beat.” That’s just a mouthful, and no legendary weapon ever goes down in history with such an exhausting name.
