Where to find trains in Fortnite

Each time you begin a Fortnite match, you’ll find a grey diamond on your map with a train on top. You’ll also spot an arrow pointing toward its driving direction. It constantly moves along a railway track that loops around the island, so you’ll need to watch its current path to plan your next move.

Although it doesn’t move at lightning speed, it’s still faster than your character’s running speed. If you’re on the opposite side of the map, you may swap places with the train by the time you make it to its original starting point. However, it does stop at train stations, so visiting a nearby landmark and waiting for the train to arrive can help. You can also land on the train at the beginning of the game if the Battle Bus’ path lines up with it.

How to conduct a train heist in Fortnite

Conducting a train heist in Fortnite requires hacking a large, gray chest. You’ll find it near the front of the train, and hovering over it shows a “Hack Chest” option. After initiating this and waiting about one minute, you’ll receive the container’s rewards and complete your train heist.

Generally speaking, robbing a train in Fortnite is easy, especially if you complete it early in your match. If you decide to do this earlier, you risk other players having the same idea. On the flip side, waiting until later in the match risks someone completing the heist before you or the train’s path being part of the storm. It’s ultimately up to you, though.

In any case, pick a location to board the train. I previously chose Reckless Railways before moving to Brutal Boxcars because it only makes sense to board a train at the train station. You can pick whichever area you want and even track the train via your map. If your goal is to arrive early and wait for it to pass by, you can do that as well.

Navigate to the front of the train and loot the two caches on either side of the engine car to nab some valuable goodies, then turn your attention to the conspicuously large crate nearby. If you have any other players tailing you, now would be an excellent time to pick them off, because opening this crate will take around 45 to 50 seconds in real time.

In that time, you can’t defend yourself as easily, so you’ll need to ensure you have some friends to keep enemies at bay or carefully watch your surroundings. You can also wait until the remaining enemies have more important things to do than rob a train. If you decide to risk waiting until later in the match, be sure the train doesn’t take you so far into the storm that it’s impossible to get out without dying.

If you can survive long enough to unpack the train of its valuables and escape, you’ll have pulled off a train heist in Fortnite. If one of your active weekly quests asks you to conduct a train heist, you’ll complete it as soon as you finish hacking the chest, rewarding you with a satisfying XP boost.
