Leontiel’s Greatsword may be the new most stylish weapon in Elden Ring, letting you farm Runes and aura at the same time. This Tarnished Pack weapon has some counter maneuvers and mobility, which quickly put it at the top of players’ lists. Here’s where you can find Leontiel’s Greatsword and how to best use it in Elden Ring.
Leontiel’s Greatsword Location in Elden Ring
Leontiel’s Greatsword, unsurprisingly, drops from Knight Leontiel, an NPC invader that appears in Caelid after killing Starscourge Radahn. The duelist surfaces slightly to the northwest of the arena.
The matador uses his signature greatsword against you, so keep your eyes peeled for his counters and sidesteps. If you see him lift a red cloth, be wary of any potential punishes. He’ll either follow up with a light slash or a heavy hit.
Your strategy depends on your build, but in our fight, Leontiel spawned rather far away. If you have any ranged attacks, such as magic, you could probably chunk his health bar before he reaches you, giving you a good advantage.
After killing Leontiel, you’ll receive Leontiel’s Greatsword and his armor set, which fits the matador theme perfectly.
How to use Leontiel’s Greatsword in Elden Ring
The main draw of Leontiel’s Greatsword is its Ash of War, Muleta. This stance lets you dodge and counter enemy attacks with quite a bit of hyper armor. And, as a bonus, it works with the powerful Rellana’s Cameo, a DLC Talisman that boosts damage after briefly holding a stance.
Muleta—the small cloth used by a matador, as per Merriam-Webster—lets you follow up with a light attack or a heavy input. You can chain them as long as your FP allows it, weaving heavies or light attacks at will. Each maneuver has some recovery frames, however, so try not to get caught flat-footed.
While using the stance, a light attack performs a sidestep and a swipe, putting you out of harm’s way and giving you a safe way to retaliate. The heavy input travels further and deals more damage, with the option to charge it if you want a bigger hit. Doing two heavies in a row performs a strong upward thrust, similar to the Giant’s Hunt Ash of War.

Leontiel’s Greatsword fits well into DEX-based builds, and there’s not really much to change from there. The weapon is unique, so you can’t change its affinity or Ash of War. It doesn’t have any other effects, either, such as Bleed.
