The 2026 installment of Fortnitemares is upon us, and while the majority of this fresh content is focused on the spooky season in Fortnite, there’s also a cute new creature you can unlock. This is the Jimothy Sidekick, a completely free animal you can add to your locker.
Although this companion is available for everyone to unlock, you’re not given any guidance on how to actually add it to your collection. It’s not too tricky, but you do need to check off a very specific quest, so here’s how to get the free Jimothy Sidekick in Fortnite.

How to unlock Jimothy the Raccoon in Fortnite
You can unlock Jimothy by extracting one Dumpster Dive Sprite in Fortnite. This Sprite comes in quite a few different variants, but luckily, any of them count as long as the Sprite you extract has the Dumpster Dive title included in it.
All Sprites you can extract to claim Jimothy for free are as follows.
- Dumpster Dive Sprite
- Gold Dumpster Dive Sprite
- Loot Hacker Dumpster Dive Sprite
- Bounty Hunter Dumpster Dive Sprite
- Trick or Treat Dumpster Dive Sprite
As soon as the round ends and you head back to the lobby after extracting any of these Sprites, a rewards pop-up will appear, granting you Jimothy as a completely free addition to your locker.

How to get Dumpster Dive Sprite in Fortnite
You can find a Dumpster Sprite using any standard method for finding Sprites in Chapter Seven, season four. This primarily means finding and entering Cheat Codes around the island, but there’s also a slim chance to find one in a chest or randomly wandering around.
How easy or difficult it is to find any Sprite varies for everyone, so there’s no way to know how it’ll go for you. Although you can’t guarantee you find a Dumpster Sprite, you can use the Cheat Code Gizmo to ensure you track down a Cheat Code, which means you will at least find some kind of Sprite. If you repeat this process as frequently as possible, your odds of finding this Sprite will be a lot better.
How long is Jimothy available in Fortnite?
Since Jimothy is part of Fortnite’s seasonal Fortnitemares event, he is expected to be obtainable only from Oct. 1 to 31. This gives you a full month to find and extract the Dumpster Sprite so you can claim him.
After this date, he’ll likely become an item shop asset, which means you’ll have to spend V-Bucks to acquire him rather than unlocking him for free. Because of this, be sure to work on finding a Dumpster Dive Sprite during Fortnitemares if you want to unlock this little guy for free.
