The process of doing homework can be a bit tricky to figure out if you’re not used to doing it, or if you lose your Sims’ homework book. Knowing how to access this feature as desired is crucial for ensuring your Sims do well in school, so here’s how to do homework in The Sims 4.

You can have your Sim work on homework by selecting the correct homework book followed by the “Do homework” option. Generally, the homework book should be in your Sim’s personal inventory, which can be accessed by selecting the inventory icon near the bottom right corner of the screen.

Sometimes, though, Sims end up leaving their homework book around the house or lots you visit. When this happens, you can click on it in the world to have them start working on it or drag it to your inventory and follow the previous steps to start the process.

How to get homework in The Sims 4

Your Sims should all automatically receive a homework book in their inventory as soon as they age up or are created at a level that requires one. It’s sometimes a bit buggy, though, which means you may not always be granted homework as intended. If you have a task that asks you to do homework but you’re missing a book, here’s how to get it.

  • Find a bookshelf or purchase one. You can get homework from any bookshelf around the world, regardless of whether you’re on a community or residential lot.
  • Click on the bookshelf. Doing so brings up an array of options you can select to have your Sim interact with this item in unique ways, but only one of these choices allows you to get homework.
  • Select the “Purchase books…” option. This brings up a vast collection of books you can buy.
  • Find and purchase the right homework for your Sim. From the menu near the top left of the book shop pop-up, select the “Homework books” option. Choose and purchase the right homework for your Sim.

With all packs installed, there are five different books that come up under the homework tab. Choosing the right one for your Sims’ needs is essential. Generally, you’re probably looking for grade school homework, homework, or university homework, but all of the available options are as follows.

NameAge/occupationPrice
Grade school homeworkAll child sims who attend school. One Simoleon
HomeworkAll teen sims who attend school. One Simoleon
University homeworkAll young adults and older Sims who attend university. One Simoleon
Soccer team playbookAll Sims who play for the soccer team.100 Simoleons
Teacher’s padfolio of student homeworkAll Sims in the teacher career.150 Simoleons

The option to do homework only appears when your Sim has an assignment asking them to do so. If you can’t do the homework, it’s likely that you have already done all of the required task. Homework can only ever be done using one of the previously mentioned books, not through a computer or other methods.

Some other tricky gameplay features you may need help navigating are finding Foundry Cove, listening to the wind, installing Custom Content and Mods, and finding Debug and Live Edit objects.
