How to defeat Moorwing in Hollow Knight Silksong

The mightier the foe, the mightier the fall.

The terror of Greymoor, Moorwing is the first wall in Hollow Knight: Silksong for many. After all, it can end Hornet’s journey with a couple of hits.

Nevertheless, the boss must be brought down if you want to advance, and luckily, you don’t have to do it alone. Here’s how to beat Moorwing in Hollow Knight: Silksong, as well as how to get Garmond and Zaza to join in on the fray.

Like Lace, Moorwing only has access to a few attacks at the start of the fight: a soar (which can only be avoided by jumping or floating), a sonic boom-like grounded projectile, and a series of scratches. The projectiles can be easily exploited by jumping and then attacking. Here’s how to counter the remaining moves:

  • Soar: Jump to avoid the attack before performing a downward slash (Reaper Crest) or pierce (Hunter Crest). A successful slash guarantees a follow-up.
  • Scratches: Dash to the opposite direction before performing a series of jumping attacks.

Upon suffering significant damage, Moorwing will then become agitated and start using enhanced projectiles capable of circling it and comboing into each other. His standard grounded variant also changes, and can now clip you in the air. Any mistake here is fatal, so stay quick on your feet while saving Silk for Bind. Make sure to also prioritize avoiding the projectiles and only attack once the boss stops or performs its easy-to-counter moves.

If you are having trouble adapting to the Reaper moveset during the fight, you can change back to the Hunter Crest by heading to the Crest Screen at any bench.

How to fight Moorwing with Garmond and Zaza in Hollow Knight Silksong

Although their presence won’t cause the boss to stop targeting you, it’s possible to get Garmond and Zaza to aid you against Moorwing by exhausting the knight’s dialogue before meeting them at the spot marked below after the path to the boss is unlocked.

During the fight, the knight can deal a fair amount of damage if close and block projectiles momentarily. I highly recommend accepting their help, as you never know what it might unlock later on.
