As you build up your village in Manor Lords, you might notice some important wares that don’t have a designated industry building. These are things like ale for the tavern or weapons for your militia. You get these by creating artisans, but how to do so isn’t necessarily clear.
You make artisans by adding workshops and extensions to family homes. These are things like Brewery, Blacksmith, Armorer, Fletcher, Tailor, and so on. To build these extensions, you have to be observant when setting up your burgage lots. You then build an extension, which locks the home’s family into that specific role.
How to build extensions in Manor Lords
In Manor Lords, extensions like blacksmith and fletcher shops are built in the backyards of your burgages. This means that there needs to be space back there. Thankfully, there’s an indication when constructing your lots that lets you know an extension can be built.
You might already know this, but when drawing out burgage lots, the first two nodes indicate where the front of the buildings will be. This is always true, no matter how far back you go. You can stretch the lots as far as you want, and you’ll just be giving them a bigger and bigger backyard.
For some extensions, that’s helpful, but for most, you’ll likely want to give them the bare minimum. When you go to place the last node in your lot, you’ll see what and how many can be built in the zone you picked. Typically, you use this to tell how many houses can be built, but if you’re trying to build a workshop, you can tell if you left enough room if you see an icon that looks like a little house with a mallet in the middle.
Once you place lots with sufficient size for an extension, you’re going to have to wait until the homes are constructed. Once they’re done, click on the lot to see its properties. On the top banner of that window, you’ll see a white mallet encircled by a gear. Clicking on that will bring a drop down of what extensions can be built.
There are a few caveats as to what you can build. First, many of the extensions are only available after you upgrade the lot to level 2. Secondly, the armorer extension is only available after unlocking the Basic Armormaking tech. Third, most of the extensions cost money to build. This means that you may need to do some trading first.
