How to complete The Monochrome Mystery in Disney Dreamlight Valley

What if I prefer the monochrome?

Once you’ve freed Oswald from the confines of the Ancient Ruins in Disney Dreamlight Valley and stumbled out into the sunlight again, you’ll need to set out in search of Merlin. The real one, that is, and not the bad fake who just snatched the Spark of Imagination from your grasp.

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of monochrome. I happen to be a huge fan and incorporate the color (or lack thereof) scheme into all aspects of my life. However, even I have to admit that it’s not very ‘Disney’. With that in mind, once you’ve left the Ruins to discover a giant gaping tear across the sky, it’s time to figure out why things on Eternity Isle are suddenly becoming a little too grayscale.

How to complete The Monochrome Mystery in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The three newly monochromatic items in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To begin this quest, find Merlin either on the Isle itself or back in the Valley and talk to him. Once he’s brought you up to date with events that have happened while you were exploring the Ruins with Oswald, you’ll need to do two things.

Talk to the team

Speak to the three Villagers who used their skills to help you gain access to the trap door within the Ruins:

  • Rapunzel
  • Gaston
  • EVE

They will tell you that something isn’t quite right, before disclosing that they’ve seen black and white animals roaming around their respective biomes (Capybara, Cobra and Monkey respectively).

Take some snapshots

There are three things around Eternity Isle which are newly monochromatic, one in each of the three Rift in Time villager’s respective biomes:

  • The boat that’s stuck in a tree in the Wild Tangle
  • Piles of crates outside Gaston’s House in the Wastes
  • A stack of books inside EVE’s secret place, behind the waterfall in the Docks

Equip your camera and take a photo of each of these objects, then return to Merlin with the evidence and information.

It turns out that the giant tear in the fabric of reality caused by Jafar haphazardly attempting to use the Spark of Imagination is causing Disney of old to seep into Disney Dreamlight Valley. We need a friend from old-time-Disney to help us fix this issue, and who better than Oswald? After all, he’s 97 years old, so he’s well placed to talk about life before color animation.
