Research and Development is a new contract in Marathon, and you can complete it in Season 2 to earn some fantastic rewards. The contract can be broken down into two parts, and you have to complete them in a single run.
Let’s find out how to complete the contract easily once you activate it.

Marathon Research and Development contract walkthrough
The Research and Development contract is broken down into the following parts.
- Acquire Anomaly Specimen form a Hazardous Transport Drone
- Deliver Anomaly Specimen to DCON
Acquire Anomaly Specimen from a Hazardous Transport Drone
To begin the contract, you’ll need to drop in the Dire Marsh (Night) map. I opted for the new PVE-focused mode since you have to concentrate on the contract. I also opted for squad fill since it will be helpful to bring down the drone in a full party.

Once you survive the first three minutes of the run, a notification will pop up on your screen. Next, you’ll find the location of the drone marked on your map. Look out for the contract symbol, and you’ll find the drone’s location (the location varies on every run).

Approach the drone and shoot to take it down. If you’re playing solo, chances are that it will escape and teleport to a different location. Thankfully, the three of us were strong enough to prevent the drone from teleporting to a different location.

Once the drone is shot down, you can loot it for resources. You’ll also find the Anomaly Specimen. Move the item to your backpack, and you’ll finish the first of two tasks.

Deliver Anomaly Specimen to DCON
To complete the contract, head to a DCON on the Dire Marsh map. You can use this guide to find all working DCONs on the map. Alternatively, you can find it on the map using the icon.

- Interact with the DCON to add the Anomaly Specimen.
- Wait for a few seconds for the transfer to complete, and you’ll finish the contract. It’s not necessary to escape successfully to finish the contract.
Once you’re back in the main menu, you can redeem the rewards for completing the contract.
