How to complete Destiny 2: Whispers of the Taken 3 quest

The whispers are finally about to stop.

For the third week of the Into the Light update for Destiny 2, the final Whispers of the Taken quest is available. If players take up the task, it rewards new Perk options for the crafted version of the Whisper of the Worm Exotic sniper rifle.

The final week of Eris Morn’s quests is just like Whispers of the Taken 1 and Whispers of the Taken 2, but players must be more mindful of how they earn Taken Essence and traverse even further into The Whisper on its hardest difficulty.

The Whisper is a formerly vaulted Destiny 2 Exotic mission that returned alongside Into the Light. Whisper of the Worm originally came from the Exotic mission, and now, it serves as the method to obtain a new craftable version of Whisper of the Worm. Once players can make a Whisper of the Worm on their own, they can earn options to improve the weapon through the Whispers of the Taken questline. These quests appeared over the first three weeks following the release of Into the Light and Whispers of the Taken 3 marks the final entry.

How to start Whispers of the Taken 3

Players won’t be able to start Whispers of the Taken 3 until they complete the quest that reintroduces The Whisper Exotic mission: Whispers of the Past. Players can start Whispers of the Past by visiting Eris Morn on the Moon. Thankfully, this quest won’t slow Guardians down too much, as it only requires players to complete The Whisper on any difficulty.

After Guardians have finished Whispers of the Past, they’ll acquire a craftable Whisper of the Worm Exotic sniper rifle. However, before players can use crafting or Reshaping features on the gun, they’ll need to dismantle it or extract Whisper of the Worm’s blueprint via the Deepsight node on the Exotic. This step is required to either Shape or Reshape Whisper of the Worm to add the Perks Whispers of the Taken rewards. Once players are settled, they can revisit Eris Morn on the Moon to start Whispers of the Taken.

Taken Essence and Blights

As with previous quests in the Whispers of the Taken line, the first step involves collecting Taken Essence. Players will need to collect another 30 Taken Essence like they did for Whispers of the Taken 2, but this time, the item will only drop from precision kills. Guardians can hop into the Prophecy Dungeon or any other bountiful source of Taken foes to make work on those headshots more manageable.

After players earn enough Taken Essence, they’ll need to enter the Legend version of The Whisper for the next step. Just like the other Whispers of the Taken quests, Guardians must hunt down three Taken Blights hidden within The Whisper Exotic mission. And just like those other quests, Whisper of the Worm is the only way to destroy the Blights. Players will want to head most of the way through The Whisper before stopping for the blights. They’re hidden in the room just before the boss.

After traversing the maddening paths of The Whisper, Guardians will eventually reach a room filled with Taken Psions surrounding a large pit blocked by a barrier. After clearing the area, don’t break the barrier and drop down to the boss encounter. Instead, take a good look around the room. Two Blights should be obviously visible to the top left and bottom right, and a third is just over the edge of the platform on the right side. If players go across the room and make the lengthy jump to the slanted structure across the chasm, they’ll have a clear shot on all three.

Complete Legend difficulty

With the Blights taken care of, the final step for Whispers of the Taken 3 is to complete The Whisper on Legend difficulty. Because of the Exotic mission’s traversal and platforming focus, Legend isn’t much of a concern with coordinated players, but keep in mind that the difficulty bump decreases the time allowance to 20 minutes from Normal’s 40.

A good tip that can also help weigh the odds in players’ favor is to take care of the Taken Essence and Blights separately before attempting the Legend clear. The 20 minutes can be tight for Guardians who aren’t familiar with the intricacies of The Whisper, so there’s no need to complicate it further by adding those two objectives against the timer.

After players clear The Whisper on Legend, they can return to Eris to complete the quest. Whispers of the Taken 3 rewards the Enlightened Action Perk for crafting with Whisper of the Worm. Enlightened Action provides bonuses to Handling and Reload Speed, activating on hit and stacking up to 12 times.
