Creating your starting character is often one of the most exciting parts of your playthrough’s beginning when it comes to casual, cozy games like Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. You have a few customization options, from your hairstyle and color to your eye and face shape.
What if you want to change your style, though? What if you want a new hair color, voice, or name? Although you can change your appearance, it’ll take a few story chapters. That said, there are spoilers for Fantasy Life i’s mid-game storyline up ahead, so read on with caution.

How to change your character’s appearance in Fantasy Life i
You can change your character’s appearance, name, and voice from Chapter 3 onward. Partway through this chapter, you’ll unlock a new region and an NPC that will allow you to change your character’s appearance.
During Chapter 3: Digging Up Secrets of the Past, you’ll discover a new region of Eternia Village, Warren Willow Hollow, in search of a miner who can break a boulder leading into the Depths. After some time, you’ll unlock a Base Camp, letting you speak to Boyle inside a Guild Office to change your character’s appearance.

Changing your appearance through Boyle is completely free. Much like the character creator you interact with before Fantasy Life i’s story officially begins, you can change your name, customize your appearance, or pick a new voice, depending on your preferences. You can also return here at any point in your playthrough to change your style again if you wish.
If you’re in Eternia Village or Ginormosia and want to return to your Base Camp, you can access this area by heading into your map, using W/S or the up and down arrows on your controller to cycle between the Past, Present, and Ginormosia. Your Base Camp and the Depths are both in the Past, requiring you to swap to this time period whenever you want to revisit your base and change your appearance, redeem quest rewards, or progress through certain portions of the main storyline.
How to change your outfit in Fantasy Life i
Although changing your appearance requires visiting Boyle in your Base Camp, you can easily change your outfits by heading into your main menu, choosing Outfits, and picking any available unlocked clothes. Unlike the Equipment menu, this one doesn’t impact your stats at all, letting you appear however you wish without sacrificing attack damage, HP, or gathering skill buffs.

In other words, you can make your character look like a chef in battle, a powerful warrior while sewing clothes, or a new player after mastering your first skill. Since your outfit doesn’t impact your equipment, you can swap between both menus to change your gear and improve your stats without changing your appearance. You can also do this for any companions you unlock throughout Fantasy Life i’s story.
How to change your house’s appearance in Fantasy Life i
Although Boyle is in charge of helping you manage the island and changing your appearance, he isn’t the one to talk to if you want to upgrade your house. Instead, you’ll need Cooke for that. Cooke is another character you’ll find in the Base Camp’s Guild Office you can interact with to build houses for you and your islanders. You can also change your house’s appearance through Cooke’s menus.

At first, you’ll only have a Thatched House in two color options available to use as your house’s outer appearance. Later on, you can buy additional blueprints from shops around Fantasy Life i’s maps, letting you customize your home in more detail. You can also enter your house anytime to place decorations and spruce up its inside if you’re more of an interior decorator.
