The PS4 and Xbox One ports will now be out on May 5, 2023
Hogwarts Legacy is out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, but there’s still more ports in the works. WB Interactive has fully confirmed that the game will arrive on Switch, PS4, and Xbox One in 2023; but the former pair have been delayed at the last minute.
According to the game’s official Twitter account, the previous gen editions will now launch on May 5, 2023. That’s a roughly one month delay from the prior target of April 4. The reason cited for the delay was vague, other than “needing more time” to work on the ports.
Here’s the full statement from the Hogwarts Legacy team:
“We’re overwhelmed with gratitude for the response to Hogwarts Legacy from fans around the globe. The team is working hard to deliver the best possible experience on all platforms and we need more time to do this. Hogwarts Legacy will launch for PS4 and Xbox One May 5, 2023.”
While my playthrough of Hogwarts Legacy was relatively stable on PS5, there are a number of minor glitches and performance problems that impacted my session; and there’s a rather nasty completionist-oriented glitch that prevents a 100% rating. Ideally all of these problems are going to be ironed-out day one of the previous-gen release, which could be a big reason for the delay.
Either way there’s plenty of impressions and reviews out for the game, which will ostensibly be the same experience on previous-gen consoles, in terms of content. You have room to decide if you want to skip out on the PS4 and Xbox One versions.
Has the Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy been delayed, too?
As of now, the Switch version is still ready to go on July 25, 2023. Only the PS4 and Xbox One ports have been impacted by the delay thus far.
