According to data gathered by The Diffusion Group, 78 percent of PlayStation 3 users have their system connected to the Internet. For Xbox 360 and Wii, the rates are 73 and 54 percent, respectively. It’s worth noting that these figures apply to the United States.
Really, it makes perfect sense. With no monthly fee attached to PlayStation Network, there’s a lower barrier to entry compared to Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE. As for the Wii, I’m surprised to see such a high percentage of online-enabled consoles. People are more tolerant of Friend Codes than I thought, perhaps.
The real question — at least in my feeble mind — is how these figures break down. When it comes to online functionality, are people primarily using their consoles for multiplayer, movie streaming, or what?
