Heroes of the Storm turns one year old today

Celebrate with some bonus XP

It’s wild to think that Heroes of the Storm launched one year ago. In that time, it has become my go-to MOBA, and I have a hard time picturing anything else in the genre pulling me away. Part of that is the appeal of playing as familiar Blizzard characters and knowing their backstories, but it’s also the shorter match format. It’s just great fit for me as a competitive multiplayer game.

Blizzard has a few celebratory promotions in effect as of today, including a 50 percent bonus XP event that will carry on until June 14, 2016. If you log in during that window, you’ll secure a “First Anniversary” portrait and you can also save on an Anniversary Bundle in the shop.

This is a big month for Heroes. Medivh is entering the game on June 14, and on that same day, the revised Ranked play will kick off its first season and Unranked Draft mode will become available. Blizzard has designed this to be “the preferred queue for players looking to draft with a few friends or play in a more structured environment than Quick Match but without the pressures of ranked play.” That sounds like something I’ll have to try out. Ranked is too stressful!
