Hellraid won’t be ready in time for release this year

Techland is going for the when-it’s-done approach

Between Hellraid and Dying Light, it’s the former Techland game I’m more curious about. (I’m burned out on the developer’s zombie titles. Can you blame me?) While this does rather blatantly look like a project from the people behind Dead Island, especially in the trailers — one of you jokingly referred to it as “Skeleton Island,” which has stuck with me — the fantasy setting in a first-person context is one gaming hasn’t seen much of in recent years. That’s why I’m interested.

“If we released our game this year we would have to make too many compromises and the final product probably wouldn’t meet all our promises and your expectations,” said producer Marcin Kruczkiewicz. You know what’s about to come next. “That’s why we’ve made a tough decision to release Hellraid in 2014 or to be more precise: when it’s done.”

This longer development cycle will result in more modes and features, both for single-player and co-op. “We also want to use this time to rethink a few things,” Kruczkiewicz said. “Playtesting our game with fans and players who visited our office gave us a lot of fresh insight and new perspective on many aspects of the game. For example we want to redesign the magic system to make it even more powerful and diverse, add new ways of casting spells and a set of new, more visually stunning spells.”

Hellraid is slated for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Fingers crossed it scratches that Heretic itch.
