[Update: Publisher Square Enix released the following statement:

“This was a mistake on our side and not our intention to gate the Platinum trophy via the optional Bonus Episode in the deluxe sku. We’ve already started speaking to the first parties about rectifying this.”

Looks like all’s quiet on the Life Is Strange front once more.]

Life Is Strange: Before the Storm is coming soon. The prequel to Dontnod’s time traveling episodic adventure launches at the end of August, and just like its teenage cast, Before the Storm seems pretty fickle when it comes to sharing — at least with its Platinum trophy.

Push Square first reported that Before the Storm‘s final, Gold trophy requires players to beat an episode called “Farewell.” The catch is that it’s a bonus chapter only available to those who purchase the game’s deluxe edition. Basically, if you want every single trophy in the new Life Is Strange, you’ll need to dish out some extra cash.

In Life Is Strange‘s parlance, the whole situation is hella annoying.

Granted, there’s a chance that “Farewell” will be made available sometime after the game’s release. For now, at least, PlayStation trophy hunters will need to take shelter in the deluxe edition of Before the Storm.
