Handheld Neo Geo due out this December, won’t be cheap

The Neo Geo X handheld we heard about earlier this year will see a worldwide release on December 6, 2012, Tommo Inc. has revealed today. Priced at $199.99, you’ll be thankful to know that it isn’t merely a portable system; the package (dubbed Neo Geo X Gold) also comes with a joystick and a docking station to charge the handheld and output to a larger display via HDMI or A/V out.

Oh, and this includes 20 pre-loaded games, such as Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters ’95, Metal Slug, and Samurai Shodown II. The Neo Geo X handheld packs a 4.3″ LCD screen, an expandable game card slot, internal stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Interesting concept, for sure, but the list of games isn’t all that great. I would have expected more for something in this price range. At least for me, once you move into the $200 range, the hardware can no longer be an impulse buy.

Full list of included games:

  • 3 Count Bout
  • Art of Fighting II
  • Alpha Mission II
  • Baseball Stars II
  • Cyber Lip
  • Fatal Fury
  • Fatal Fury Special
  • The King of Fighters ’95
  • King of the Monsters
  • Last Resort
  • League Bowling
  • Magician Lord
  • Metal Slug
  • Mutation Nation
  • NAM 1975
  • Puzzled
  • Real Bout – Fatal Fury Special
  • Samurai Shodown II
  • Super Sidekicks
  • World Perfect Heroes
