Halo Infinite gets a Zombies-style mode, courtesy of Forge creators

Objective: Survive.

After a long PvE content lull, Halo Infinite is getting an injection of some much-needed Firefight-esque action. Courtesy of the Forge Falcons, a community-led group of Forge gurus who focus on creating unique experiences using the robust toolset found in game, players are being treated to two weeks of, essentially, Halo: Zombies, called Survive the Undead.

A blog post over on Halo Waypoint details the new experience as a battle of attrition with a simple objective: survive. If that sounds familiar, you’re probably the target audience for this sort of thing. Players will earn points by slaying “zombies,” which can then be spent in typical Call of Duty: Zombies fashion on upgrades, perks, or a “mystery box.” It could contain anything, even upgrades or perks!

It should be noted that while this mode will appear in matchmaking through the Combat Workshop for two weeks (from now until June 4), it isn’t an official game type, but rather a 343-sanctioned community Forge mode. What I mean by this is, expect some quirks, like the blog post’s warning that “while waiting to respawn, make sure you wiggle your sticks to keep from getting kicked from inactivity.”

Still, the Forge Falcons have been cooking up unique Halo: Infinite experiences for quite a while, including their own twist on a Battle Royale, so it’s nice to see 343 giving them some well-deserved time in the spotlight. As for what this will do for Halo: Infinite’s steady but somewhat languishing player count remains to be seen, but hopefully it’ll spark more interest in additional PvE experiences. Since King of the Hill Firefight launched last December, we haven’t seen so much as a whiff of another game type of its kind from the developers themselves.
