Gunbrella

Gunbrella launches on September 13, pre-orders come with free Gato Roboto

I'm at the gun. I'm at the umbrella. I'm at the combination gun and umbrella.

Fans of shooting and floating, take note, because Gunbrella has a launch date. The latest from Doinksoft is set for September 13, 2023 on Nintendo Switch and PC. Described as a “gritty side-scrolling adventure,” Gunbrella certainly looks the part in the new release date trailer.

Okay, it’s actually somehow kind of cute, too? Maybe it’s the music, or maybe it’s the monster that looks like a berserk Tetsuo from the climax of Akira. Whatever horrors your woodsman ends up facing, there’s one constant that remains. He’ll do so with a gun that is also an umbrella, and that’s that.

Ghouls ‘n gangsters

The titular firearm isn’t just about shooting, gliding, and dashing; it can also be used for close-quarters combat. There aren’t many enemies I’ve seen so far that I’d like to get close to, but I don’t think we’ll have much of a say in the matter. If you’re keen on seeing how this one plays for yourself, a demo is available on both platforms.

Those who pre-order will get a free copy of 2019’s best entry in the cat-in-armored-mech sub-genre, Gato Roboto. The black and white side-scroller is one of those games you can beat in a single sitting if you’re up for it, and it’s worth playing. It’s simple enough, but it looks like Gunbrella is aiming for something on a much larger scale.

Publisher Devolver Digital is on a roll when it comes to things mixed with guns. The wildly different Wizard with a Gun launches just one month after this one.
