Green Man Gaming has a pretty genius concept to it. Creating a digital distribution platform that allows people to sell back their games and then resell them as used could make quite the meld. If nothing else, there’s great potential from a consumer-loyalty standpoint.
The logistics of it couldn’t have been easy. They’ve enticed publishers to sign on by offering a considerable percentage of the used sales. And they’re gathering all sorts of user data which they’ll share with their partners, and that’s always useful when you want to sell somebody something. The big problem, according to Green Man Gaming’s CEO, Paul Sulyok, was in getting their platform to work with DRM systems.
That would pretty much mean SecuROM, as the name has become the poster-boy for troublesome DRM. A press release from Green Man today confirmed that their service will be using what’s pretty much the industry standard, despite all the groaning every time a game uses it.
